This was perhaps the largest crossword we've ever done, combining two grids into one puzzle. It took us the whole afternoon, but no longer than two separate crosswords would take.
Though it looks intimidating, the difference between the grids makes it easier to allocate words, as explained in the preamble. The biographical information may help too.

We had fun with this Perimetrical Crossword, which is essentially a jigsaw once you've got some of the answers. The best place to start is probably the 10-letter and 7-letter words, and if you can get some of them you can probably work out where they go in the grid through checking where the words cross.
